Abstract
The International Conference on Oral Malodour took place from 14–16 July 2019 in Tortworth Court near Bristol, UK and was organized and hosted by Saliha Saad and her team from the University of the West of England (UWE). The conference programme set out to stimulate conversation amongst delegates, both formally by way of oral and poster presentations, as well as informally through social events and joint meals that celebrated the food and location of the South West of England (kicking off at the opening evening reception with a tasting of speciality West Country cheeses and ciders). The meeting was the first dedicated international gathering of halitosis researchers in almost a decade, following conferences in Dortmund, Germany in April 2009 and in Salvador, Brazil in May 2011, the former having been jointly organized by the International Society on Breath Odour Research (ISBOR) and the International Association of Breath Research (IABR)i [1]. Due to the extended period without a meeting platform for researchers and practitioners in the field of halitosis science, it was the express intention of the organizer and host of this meeting, Saliha Saad, to reinstate a conference dedicated to breath odour research as a platform to disseminate latest findings and to reignite networking and collaboration in the field. This relaunch, which is intended to be the first in a new series of regular breath odour conferences, was attended by forty delegates from seven countries. The round-table seating arrangements during the oral presentations, as well as the manor house venue, gave the conference an informal feeling that was highly conducive to interaction and debate amongst delegates. This meeting report is intended for the readership of Journal of Breath Research interested in halitosis research and developments; it broadly reports on the topics presented and discussed at the conference, thereby summarizing latest and prospective research, in keeping with similar reports of other topical meetings published in this journal [2–4].
