Abstract
Technological progress is the main driver of many applications for digitization and networking in many domains of private and business life. Especially in the context of a progressively digitized production Cyber-physical Systems (CPS) are defined as one of the primary enablers and cornerstones for the most efficient and flexible production. Cyber-physical Production Systems (CPPS) are CPS used in a production context. CPPS can range from a simple (wirelessly) networked sensor in the form of an internet of things (IoT) device, which is monitoring process temperatures to complex clusters of CP(P)S. Due to their nature, CPPS can form a system of systems from a machine to a production line to a complete factory. This complexity is hard to handle for operators on the shop floor. This paper presents a concept for a middleware-based approach on how to handle the modeling of CPPS during the operational life cycle phase for a functional extension.
