Stationary batteries in the EU countries, Norway and Switzerland
Title Supplement
Market shares and system benefits in a decentralized world
Abstract
In terms of the economic performance of residential PV systems, the rate of self-consumption is becoming ever more important. Battery systems are available in order to increase onsite-consumed electricity. We calculate a scenario for the market diffusion of decentralized battery systems for residential self-consumption in Europe until 2050. The main drivers of market uptake, future electricity prices, and technology costs are assessed in detail via comprehensive model coupling of electricity market and energy demand models and the inclusion of experience curves that reflect cost reduction through technological learning with increasing battery installations. In our decentralized scenario, these considerations result in 467 GWh of stationary batteries for residential self-consumption.
