Abstract
This article gives an overview of the state of research for the automated derivation of inspection characteristics from point cloud data at the Fraunhofer Research Institution for Large Structures in Production Engineering (IGP). On the one hand the developed production-accompanying evaluation software of ship panels and sections is described. This software allows extracting functional dimensions such as lengths, widths, radii, diagonals, component openings as well as control points for the coupling of sections using image processing algorithms. On the other hand, we will look at scatter point effects on edges depending on the scan distance and the scan background, which serve as the basis for a 3d edge detection and approximation.
