Titel
Propagation measurements for the characterization of a satellite-to-indoor channel in L-band
Abstract
The satellite-to-indoor propagation channel in L-band has been measured and analyzed for several houses in Athens, Greece and Erlangen, Germany. The influence of a user on the reception (e.g. blockage) has been measured during the trials, too. The geo-stationary satellite Worldspace-Afristar was used for the trials. The measurement campaign was carried out within the MAESTRO project (IST-2003-507023) and took place in Athens (46° elevation) and Erlangen (32° elevation) between August and October 2005. Since the available electrical power of new geo satellites allows higher system link budgets, data have been collected to characterize the direct satellite-to-indoor radio channel for future broadcasting systems like Satellite-Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (SDMB) or European radio systems as actually standardized in ETSI. Indoor measurements were carried out in several residential houses with different characteristics to obtain statistically relevant information for the prediction of nationwide indoor satellite services. The collected data are analyzed for important channel parameters such as mean power and signal distribution characteristics. This paper presents results from the field trials.
