Research Fab Microelectronics Germany - A novel cooperation concept for jointly technology development
Abstract
The microelectronic market is in transition. Based on mobile sensing and internet-of-things market trends, combined microsystem device and integration technologies are more and more important for product innovations. The research and development institutes have to follow these trends to strengthen the German industry with application-oriented and integrated research and development for high-tech products. In order to be able to offer complete technologies along the value chain, eleven Fraunhofer institutes within the Fraunhofer Group for Microelectronics as well as the Ferdinand-Braun-Institut, Leibniz-Institut für Höchstfrequenztechnik (FBH) in Berlin and the Leibniz Institute for Innovations for High Performance Microelectronics (IHP) in Frankfurt/Oder, will combine their technology research into a joint, cross-location technology pool called the "Research Fab Microelectronics Germany" (FMD), and expand it.
