Wettability behavior of oleophilic and oleophobic nanorough surfaces in air or immersed in water
Abstract
The wettability of functional surfaces is very important for various applications. In this chapter, wetting analysis methods for characterizing oleophobic and oleophilic surfaces while surrounded by air as well as immersed in water are presented. By combining these methods with our robust roughness analysis methodology, we can perform systematic investigations regarding the relationship between the surface structure and oil wettability. Examples of sol-gel coatings with adjustable nano-roughness are given. Oleophobic wetting behavior in both fluid phases (air and water) could be attained.
