Experimental studies and numerical computer fluid dynamic simulations give insight in the atomization process at a rotary bell for paint applications. The paint flow on the bell as well as the atomization at the bell edge is investigated. In the simulations volume of fluid methods with complex rheological models are used, experimentally high speed videos and phase Doppler anemometry was used beside classical painting trials.
