In this work, we present an efficient damage assessment for cables and hoses, based on forces and moments achieved by simulation. Depending on the particular application, especially the frequency range of the excitation, either a quasi-static or a dynamic simulation is utilized. In both cases, a geometrically non-linear beam model enables physically correct simulations even for large deformations. The simulated forces and moments serve as input for the comparative load data analysis. It comprises the recovery of local stress tensors on the cable surface, deduces local one-dimensional comparison stresses by applying the critical plane approach and computes local accumulated damage values. Due to the lack of individual Wöhler parameters for cables, it is only possible to calculate pseudo-damage values based on a generic Wöhler curve, which do not predict the actual cable lifetime until failure. However, it allows a fast comparison of many different configurations to find the best solution in the sense of damage.
