Short fiber reinforced concrete is different from continuous fiber reinforced concrete. The difference is due to the fact that fibers are usually randomly oriented, and this leads to a reduction of effectiveness of the reinforcement. Here, typical fiber materials are shown and their properties are discussed.
Attention is given to the pull-out mechanism of hooked fibers. Experimental investigations, based on acoustic emissions, show the appropriateness of the method. Pull-out tests, bending tests and compression tests are discussed in detail. The acoustic emission method is finally applied to a large prestressed beam. Limits of the application are presented in the last part.
