In this work, we explore this intriguing possibility further using a numerical simulation model that allows for a systematic investigation and optimization of the relative intensity noise (RIN) characteristics of fiber amplifiers. This models even allows, for the first time to the best of our knowledge, for the simulation of the propagation of RIN along the fiber amplifier. This opens the door to optimization strategies based on longitudinally-varying fiber designs.
