Abstract
The EC funded JOIN'EM project aims at reducing the amount of copper used in industrial products in order to reduce material costs and product weight at the same time by replacing full copper solutions by magnetic pulse welded hybrid aluminium copper parts. Based on different destructive and non-destructive joint characterisation methods a process analysis for the magnetic pulse welding technology was carried out and process windows were quantified. Numerical multiscale simulation supported this process analysis and the corresponding tool design. In the next steps of the project the knowledge gained so far will be used for the development of several industrial demonstrator parts representative for different apprication cases and industrial branches.
