Abstract
Bernhard Mueller graduated as »Dipl.-Ing.« in production engineering from Dresden University of Technology, Germany, in 1997 after preparing his final thesis at California State University, Long Beach (USA). He worked in German foundry and automotive supply industry for 12 years, focussing on R&D as well as on management responsibilities, serving as a plant manager in his latest position. In 2001, Bernhard obtained his »Dr.-Ing.« (PhD) degree from TU Dresden, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. He has joined the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology IWU as a scientific researcher in 2008, where he has established »Additive Manufacturing Technologies« as a new field of research and has been managing this as the responsible head of department. In his education and previous positions, Bernhard has recurrently worked with additive manufacturing / 3D printing technologies for more than 20 years, focussing now on laser beam melting technology (metal 3D printing). Bernhard has been acting currently as the spokesman for the »Fraunhofer Additive Manufacturing Alliance« and has been managing the German industrial »Beam Melting Network«. He has been a member in technical committee »Additive Manufacturing« in the Association of German Engineers VDI, in the technical committee »Rapid Technologies« of the German Research Association on Welding and Allied Processes of the DVS (German Welding Society), in the Advisory Council of Rapid.Tech International Trade Show & Conference for Additive Manufacturing in Erfurt (Germany) and jury member for the IAMA International Additive Manufacturing Award. Bernhard has authored 50+ technical and scientific publications and presented also 50+ technical papers at national and international conferences, symposia and workshops.
