Abstract
Minimizing the use of resources will become a decisive competitive factor in the future, i.e. the driving force behind progress and innovations are complemented by another subject - resource efficiency. Considering current challenges, high-performance materials become increasingly important such as titanium, high-temperature materials or composites. However, they are characterized by high cost and limited processing properties such as low formability and high strength, creating specific challenges for production engineering and forming technology. Thus, manufacturing strategies have to be identified and practically implemented, allowing efficient component production while ensuring the required component characteristics. Resource efficiency is firmly anchored at the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine tools and Forming Technology (IWU), with the research topics along the entire process chain: currently resource-efficient process routes are investigated for using titanium alloys to manufacture structural components.
