Abstract
The realisation of the European Union’s environmental aims results in an ever-greater reliance on volatile renewable energy sources. This translates into increasingly complex interactions on the energy markets, where industry companies must consider self-provisioning of energy, volatile prices and time-dependent energy availability for their operations. Simulation is the tool of choice to investigate the intricate interrelations between production and energy consumption. It needs to be readied for new questions related to the above developments. This paper presents an extension to the eniBRIC class library for Siemens Plant Simulation that allows for modelling volatile renewable energy sources as well as energy storages. To support their utilisation, a so-called Energy Supply Manager with brokering capabilities was developed. Its functionality has been tested successfully in a small example model.
