Abstract
As an interface to environment and user, high-reflective (HR) and antireflective (AR) layer systems are subject to contamination, which limits their functionality. Therefore multifunctional layer systems uniting high optical functionality with easy-to-clean or self-cleaning behaviour would be advantageous. In this paper, the feasibility of the fabrication by high productive pulse magnetron sputtering in an in-line coating plant is investigated. Easy-to-clean properties are achieved by a top layer of photocatalytic and photoinduced hydrophilic TiO2 and measured by water contact angle decrease. Multifunctional HR layer systems were successfully deposited on glass and PET at low deposition temperature of 150 °C, demonstrating the possibility to coat certain polymer materials. Double sided multifunctional AR layer systems with an ultra thin top layer of photoinduced hydrophilic TiO2 have a resulting reflectivity of about 3 % and transmittance of about 97 % in the VIS.
