Abstract
WO2003074420 A UPAB: 20031128 NOVELTY - In sol-gel process for producing particles of metal oxide (I) containing halogenated target molecules (II), starting from known (I) precursors and (II), the novelty is that a polyhalogenated metal alkylalkoxy-compound (III) is also used. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is also included for metal oxide particles obtained by this process. USE - The particles are used as marker for biomolecules, sun protection agent, toner or insecticide (all claimed). The marked biomolecules are useful in immunoassay and other tests, e.g. nucleic acid tests, including nucleic acid-hybridization assay, especially in test strips, e.g. diagnostic test strips. The toners are used in the printing industry. ADVANTAGE - The process gives modified metal oxide nano-particles with hydrophobic inclusions, especially of halogenated target molecules, i.e. charged Stoeber particles. The particles are modified so that hydrophobic complexes or hydrophobic and especially oleophobic organic dyes can be incorporated in them without covalent bonds.
