Abstract
WO 200204594 A UPAB: 20020521 NOVELTY - A polymer membrane having an enzyme for biocatalytic reactions localized in the pores, which are open channels across the membrane, where the pores are provided with means of creating turbulent flow of the substrate solution and/or mixture of substrate and product, is new. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - A new polymer membrane has an enzyme for biocatalytic reactions localized in the pores, which are open channels across the membrane, and is supplied with a substrate on the feed side and gives a mixture of product formed by the enzyme and optionally unused substrate on the discharge side. The pores are provided with means of creating turbulent flow of the substrate solution and/or mixture of substrate and product. An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is also included for the production of a membrane of this type. USE - The membrane is used in biocatalytic reactions with enzymes (claimed), e.g. for producing a polysaccharide. ADVANTAGE - Very fast removal of the product is very important for effective enzymatic polymer synthesis reactions in microreactors of this type. If only diffuse transport occurs, the catalyst is rapidly poisoned by product inhibition and the possibility of continuous operation is doubtful. Convective substance transport, at least near the immobilized enzyme, allows continuous operation, even on the technical scale. Producing turbulent flow results in significant stabilization of the enzyme activity and (almost) eliminates stagnant zones.
