Abstract
One of the most effective uses of social media in crisis situation is for the distribution by emergency services, government agencies, and others of reliable information about the nature of the crisis. The panic and confusion that often occurs in the early stages of a crisis can be minimized through such messaging. The value of this role of social media in such cases cannot be underestimated.
