Abstract
Information builds the base of modern logistics. In the past companies have started collecting basic parameters, but for the purpose of extended product-identification the existing approaches are not sufficient. In this paper we present a system for enhanced information acquisition based on inherent features of products. Our prototype includes a hardware installation as well as a software framework to acquire reliable parameters and images of items in a parallel process for the use of logistic applications. The consequent use of image processing obtains superior grade information. This was used to develop valuable applications, such as a reverse matching algorithm for products in logistic applications. Based on this highly potential system we present an outlook of further value-added services.
