Titel
Effects of discernible illuminance changes on performance and condition
Abstract
In a previous study we discovered reports of enhanced alertness when exposed to discernible increasing illuminance levels. Since there is also a relevant brain activity in this context, we hypothesized enhanced wakefulness and comfort under discernible increasing illuminance levels. We investigated the influence of three different light scenarios on sleepiness, well-being, creativity, concentration and heart rate variability. Our results do not show any significant effects on performance but subjective tiredness decreased most with fast increasing light when subjects were already tired before the experiment. Heart rate variability showed tendencies of the subjects being a little more relaxed during static light. Results of the mood questionnaire do not show any significant differences between the tested light scenarios.
