Abstract
The biogas production from organic residues like biowaste or animal by-products has two major advantages. Firstly, the anaerobic digestion plays an important role as waste treatment method and secondly it is a promising alternative for a sustainable energy production. Due to several reasons like hygienisation or sterilization, inhomogeneous composition and low degradation rates of waste streams, pre-treatment technologies play an important role. The Thermal-Pressure-Hydrolysis (TPH) developed by Fraunhofer UMSICHT - Institute branch Sulzbach-Rosenberg offers a high potential to improve the biogas production combined with a complete disinfection of the waste streams according to legal frameworks.
