Titel
Meshfree numerical simulation in soil mechanics with the Finite Pointset Method (FPM)
Abstract
The major advantages of meshfree numerical simulation schemes are observed for applications with moving or free surfaces as well as phase boundaries, fluid structure interaction, or large deformations. As a result of their excellent capabilities, meshfree methods are more frequently used in soil mechanics. The Finite Pointset Method (FPM) is a meshfree approach to numerically solve (coupled) PDEs occurring in computational fluid dynamics and continuum mechanics. Because of its generalized finite difference formulation, the implementation of different material laws is quite simple, e.g. of constitutive relations for soils such as the nonlinear barodesy model. The focus of this contribution is on simulation results for quasi-static applications and the current research on the extension of the numerical scheme towards highly dynamic scenarios in soil mechanics.
