Materials diagnostics and integrated testing technology for ceramic parts
Abstract

High-performance ceramics are found today often as a critical component in newly developed systems for future applications. The reliability of the entire system in this case often is based on the critical ceramic component. New methods for process control, material diagnostics and structural health monitoring are required for this often newly developed ceramic materials. In this article, three at the Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Systems IKTS further developed ceramic characterization technologies and methods are described and their application illustrated with example. For this purpose the laser speckle photometry, the optical coherence tomography and sound analysis in combination with an appropriate acoustic pattern recognition as a powerful method for the material diagnostics in the field of ceramic materials are presented.
