Abstract

Silver-based active brazing alloys are used for the fabrication of composites from copper foils and nitride ceramics. The oxygen-sensitive solder components (e.g. Titanium) oxidise in conventional heating microscopes and avoid the melting of the solder. In this paper investigations are discussed, which are conducted with a new developed heating microscope Linseis L74 DIL for high vacuum (ca 5*10-5 mbar) or dynamic atmospheres (normal pressure, ca 5l/h argon) with very low oxygen level (ca 0,5 ppm). Thus, the melting process and the wetting of the ceramic substrate can be observed directly. The application of thermoanalytical methods for the complex characterisation of thermal processes is a suitable approach for the optimisation of materials and technical processes. This is demonstrated by the analysis of processes during brazing of ceramics.
