The RegModHarz-architecture - facing the challenges caused the transformation to a distributed energy system
Abstract
The electricity system is changing towards a more distributed system with intermittent power producers. This forces the question as to whether the actual framework of the electricity system is suited for this change. In the E-Energy project RegModHarz, we investigated this question by developing a framework, or ""architecture"", based on the actual legal framework in Germany and which considers the advantages and disadvantages of architectures in other research projects. The RegModHarz architecture enables the operators of distributed energy resources (DER) to sell their energy on different markets and to provide ancillary services for a secure network operation. We concluded that a further adaptation of the market rules and roles to the specific characteristics of DER is necessary. For the RegModHarz architecture we developed new roles enabling better integration of DER in the electricity system. The trading possibilities for DER are presented by describing the interactions between the roles for this trading possibility.
