Titel
A guide for advanced broadband multimedia applications: The BERKOM reference model application-oriented layers
Abstract
This paper gives an introduction to the BERKOM Reference Model providing profile recommendations for the application-oriented layers of the OSI Reference Model. The BERKOM Reference Model is a framework categorising communication standards and in addition to communication, data and information structures and aspects of the application environment. Integrated services, which are provided by distributed applications, have a lot of common functionality and an application developer should be supported in respect to the selection of suitable combinations of standards and application profiles. Additionally, similar services should use the same profiles to provide interoperability. Using the BERKOM Reference Model, many distributed applications, especially in the area of multimedia, which have common functionality can use products based on the appropriate standards - if available at all.
