Abstract
This paper describes the potential of a Q-switched Nd:YAG thin disc Laser for producing 2½-D micro structures of metals and ceramic materials. The manufacturing of different geometries and surfaces has been investigated, for fine positioning equipments, and moulds. The influence of material and laser parameters as well as ambient conditions on the laser process and thus the results achieved are shown. Possibilities of increasing the surface quality by further finishing processes are discussed. The technological limits of the laser process and prospects for further improvement are presented.
