Titel
Precision machining of multi-material sheets by water jet cutting
Abstract
The paper discusses the trimming of semi-finished CFRP products and a multi-material-mix out of CFRP and metal. Therefore, an abrasive waterjet system with a reduced diameter of 0.3 mm was used. It is shown that the process is suitable for the cutting of uncured CFRP without residues. In contrast the quality of trimmed rivet holes in a cured composite cannot be accomplished by a conventional 3-axis machining. Finally, it is possible to achieve precise cutting edges when machining the CFRP-metal compounds on a 5-axis abrasive fine jet system.
