The oxidative stabilization of polyacrylonitrile is a key process to the synthesis of carbon fibers. Its kinetical analysis has received little attention in the past. In the literature, kinetic studies on polyacrylonitrile stabilization are mainly carried out using the Kissinger method [1,2]. The results are values of activation energy, which can aid in comparing different material compositions. The stabilization is often regarded as an apparent one step reaction, although the complexity of the process, which consists of reactions resulting in cyclization, dehydrogenation and oxidation of the fiber suggests a more complex approach.
