Chancen für und Grenzen der Akzeptanz von CCS in Deutschland "CCS-Chancen". Schlussbericht
Abstract
The objective of the joint project CCS Prospects was to analyze the existing prospects for and limits to the acceptance of CCS in Germany. A case study analysis, representative surveys, an experimental study and focus groups were carried out to close gaps in acceptance research. These methods were employed to analyze the public's perception of specific carbon dioxide storage projects and the acceptance of different sources of carbon dioxide (coal, biomass, industry), its transportation via pipelines and different storage options (mainland vs. seabed; EGR, gas field or saline aquifer). In addition, citizens compiled proposals for participatory processes when implementing CO2 storage projects as part of the focus groups. Taken together, the studies showed there is hardly any support for CCS in Germany. The results indicate that Germany's citizens assess CCS as a high risk technology and do not perceive its benefits. The Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research in Karlsruhe, the Forschungszentrum Jülich and the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy GmbH took part in the joint project.
