Extensive verificaton of mesoscale and CFD-model downscaling
Abstract
The amount of commonly used model data for site assessment is rapidly growing, but their verification on the basis of detailed data sets is rare. To investigate the benefit of the Weather Research and Forecasting Model (WRF) downscaling approaches, a high resolution mesoscale data set was created and verified with various measurements in Germany and Poland. Out of the simulated years 2011 and 2012 we separately focussed on seasons dominated by high and low pressure systems and seasons with strong convective situations for investigations of the modelled atmospheric stability conditions. A detailed statistical verification allows to estimate the uncertainty of the simulated wind speeds. Moreover, we determine strengths and shortcomings of the model in rotor affected heights. A CFD-Model is used for detailed consideration of a forest site.
