Quality of software products becomes more important. The goal of Dependable Software Engineering (DSE) is to develop high quality software products that satisfy the customers' needs in a most economic way. To guarantee high quality products, analytical techniques can be applied during the software development process. Inspection and testing are the most important techniques. To answer the question how one can improve the quality of software products by applying and combining these techniques, one has to know how effective and efficient are inspection and testing techniques and which kinds of defects do they detect. For this, a literature research was done within this diploma thesis on the basis of a developed classification scheme. The conclusions showed that many questions in the field of DSE are unanswered yet. It is not obvious how to improve a specific dependability attribute with one of the defect detection techniques. More open research questions are discussed within this diploma thesis.
