Titel
A comparative study on the application of various simulation techniques for the purpose of cost estimation, benchmarking, and risk analysis
Abstract
This diploma thesis deals with the applicability of various simulation techniques in the context of the CoBRATM 1 method. CoBRA is a Cost Estimation, Benchmarking and Risk Analysis method for software projects developed by Fraunhofer IESE. CoBRA uses simulation for point estimation of mean project cost as well as to obtain a cost (overhead) distribution that is required for project cost risk analyze. We show that sufficient accurate and wellperforming algorithms exist for both problems. To derive such algorithms we compare different (simulation) techniques and different implementations with each other. A theoretical as well as a practical comparative evaluation is performed. The practical evaluation is done with the help of the CoBRA tool implemented in this thesis and data from a real CoBRA project in a big company.
