This paper outlines theoretical and experimental investigations into opportunities for active control of heat flows in frame structures. The application of phase-change materials using metal foam as matrix material makes it possible to achieve and increased thermal capacity that is couples with the frame structure as needed by means of variable thermal conductance based on active materials.
