Recent experiments have shown that organic powders with a particle size down to 50 nm may be obtained by a precipitation process in supercritical carbon dioxide. In this context the physical properties of the fluid plays a crucial role in separating the solid products from the mother liquor. It was possible to yield up to 50 g dry, nanoscale powders in a 6 l laboratory crystallizer in one experiment.
