Which are the current “hot topics” in technology and innovation management? Which are likely to gain importance in the near future? For researchers as well as for managers and consultants it is essential to monitor the topics which have the potential to change their own field of business or research. Asking any “expert” she will declare having the impression that some or another topic is currently on the rise, an assumption typically based on a certain “gut feeling”. Obviously, it appears sensible to complement this intuition with some more systematic analysis. A team of researchers of the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering IAO has conducted a study to identify the most researched fields within the discipline of technology and innovation management. It was assumed that analysing the keywords used in articles published in highly rated research journals allows to “draw a map” of the recent and current status of the field. The results are meant to provide a more solid base for anticipating future developments in the discipline more systematically and more reliably.
