Abstract
We present a strategy for adaptive coupling of solvers on different time scales, such as a human thermoregulation model and a high-end fluid flow solver, here ANSYS Fluent. The main contribution of the coupling strategy is to develop a scheme to cope with the significantly different behavior of the two solver types with respect to their typical time scales. By exchanging data the coupled system is able to predict the response of the human body to transient and inhomogeneous environmental conditions. The coupling scheme presented in this paper discusses a method to run both solvers in a loosely coupled transient simulation with proper time step adaptation. Finally, the coupling methodology is tested by a case study. Thereby, the thermal response of the human body under inhomogeneous conditions is simulated based on sequential data exchanging between the two solvers.
