Abstract
Influences of irradiation (by electrons and X-rays), hydrogen absorption and plastic deformation on the defect structure of titanium and steel are investigated by means of positron annihilation, optical microscopy, magnetic and laser thermal techniques. As measurements have shown, the irradiation results in intensive migration and output of hydrogen and its isotopes from metals. Electron and X-ray irradiation have been used with energy of radiation below a level of defects formation, therefore, new defects in a material did not arise. Movement of hydrogen in materials is accompanied by significant change of the defect structure in the material. Reconstruction of structure of a crystal occurs as a result of discharging the energy reserved in a crystal lattice. It was established, that in a case when the number of generated dot defects is less than concentration of defects in the crystal, the irradiation results in partial elimination of defects and translates the crystal in an equilibrium state. The experimental results have shown that the irradiation of metals and alloys by g-rays, X-rays or electrons can result in elimination of technological defects and in the regulation of crystal structure.
