Titel
Recycling of postindustrial and postconsumer plastics containing flame retardants
Abstract
Unequivocally, the use of flame retarded polymers is a successful means to reduce the number of fire cases, and therefore, they have been used in various applications. At the end of their use phase, flame retarded polymers become part of waste streams and may be subjected to recycling activities. This paper focuses on the recycling of flame retarded polymers present in real waste streams. Therefore, real waste streams are characterized, which may contain flame retarded polymers and may be subjected to recycling. Furthermore, legal and technical requirements for products of such processes are discussed. After examination of the state-of-the art recycling techniques for polymers in general, the paper will show which processes might contribute to an economic and environmentally sound recycling of flame retarded polymers.
