Titel
The W3DS-interface of cityserver3D
Abstract
Innovative information systems based on 3D city models play a major role in application areas like tourism, cultural heritage, city planning, traffic and knowledge transfer. With the commercially available geoinformation systems these developments are not considered sufficiently. Varying approaches to develop and finalize standards for city models are accomplished within national and international organizations. The department of graphic information systems of the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics and the Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences accomplishes numerous projects, where the spatial processing of three-dimensional data using geoinformation systems represent a core component. With the help of self-developed solutions large city and landscape models can be analysed and visualized in real-time. This enables to set up Location Based Services (LBS) as well as Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR) systems, visualizations of reconstructed sites, 3D-Routing or the use as databasis for further analysis. In this article we present the current level of development of the CityServer3D technology, which offers the possibility of distributing three- and four-dimensional geodata, held in an object-relational geodata base, over the Internet to different client software. Furthermore, the concepts and mechanisms to ex- and import 3D city models in formats like CityGML or M3G are shown.
