Abstract
Developing eco-friendly manufacturing processes requires the reduction of energy consumption of machine tools for cutting processes. Thus, process-oriented energy demand calculations enable a comparison between different machining alternatives and with that the energy-efficient design in the planning phase. This paper focuses on the incorporation of cutting parameters as well as power demands of machine tool components in the energy calculations. The practical approach aims at a calculation rule for the implementation into IT-solutions for production planning. Using the example of manufacturing pocket geometries in tempering steel 42CrMo4 with different process strategies a deviation of 10 % from calculated energy demand to measured energy consumption was achieved.
