Nanoporous aluminium oxid; tetraether lipid surface functionalisation

Abstract
Nanoporous alumina membrane with tunable pore sizes (20-350 nm) were prepared by anodic oxidation and used as template for biological molecules. The regular open pores are oriented vertically to the membrane surface and go through from upper to back side. Because of the narrow pore size distribution, the membranes are excellently suited for protein or biocolloid separation by ultrafiltration methodology. To achieve a biomimetic surface with self-cleaning and anti-adhesive properties, the inner walls of the porous inorganic membrane were covered with a monomolecular tetraether lipid film.
