This paper presents approaches and methodic of design and prototyping of actively powered wearable rehabilitation devices. An analytically based design and optimization process is introduced and qualifications and conditions of an efficient electrical drive are discussed. Effectiveness of the proposed method will be verified by introducing two different prototypes; an active powered knee prosthetic and an active powered upper limb orthotic.
