Abstract
Es wird ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von sphaerischen Partikeln aus Ammoniumnitrat (AN) oder Ammoniumdinitramid (ADN) vorgeschlagen, indem das AN oder das ADN geschmolzen, die Schmelze unter Bildung einer Dispersion zerstaeubt und die Dispersion unter Erhalt der Partikel abgekuehlt wird. Um die Agglomerationsneigung der erzeugten Partikel zu verringern, ist erfindungsgemaess vorgesehen, dass dem AN bzw. dem ADN ein Antibackmittel aus der Gruppe Metalloxide, Metallnitrate, Metallhydroxide, Metallcarbonate, Metallhydroxidnitrate und Metallhydroxidcarbonate in einer Menge von hoechstens 0,5 Mss.-%, bezogen auf die Masse von AN bzw. ADN, zugesetzt wird. Die Erfindung betrifft ferner solchermassen hergestellte Partikel aus AN oder ADN, deren Partikelgroesse insbesondere zwischen 1 und 500 Mikrometer betraegt.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION - In the preparation of spherical particles of ammonium nitrate (AN) by melting AN; atomizing the melt to a dispersion and cooling the dispersion to form particles, the new feature is the addition of an anti-agglomeration agent (A). (A) is added before melting, or to molten AN before atomization, at most 0.5wt.% and is homogeneously distributed in the melt. (A) is at least one oxide, nitrate, hydroxide, carbonate, hydroxide-nitrate or hydroxide-carbonate of a transition metal of period 4, with valency 2. An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is also included for spherical particles of AN that contain at most 0.5wt.% of (A), uniformly distributed. USE - AN is an oxidizing component for propellants and explosives, particularly rocket propellants and gas generators for air bags. ADVANTAGE - The addition of (A) minimizes agglomeration both during preparation and during storage of the finished product, while maintaining very high product purity. It makes possible preparation of free-flowing and very small (down to 1 micron) uniform, spherical particles; also reduces blockage of spray heads, and at the low concentration used, (A) does not act as a phase stabilizer for AN (a known use of higher concentrations of (A)).
