Several wireless systems need to be able to work simultaneously without adversely affecting each other and
consequently the productivity of the industrial process. This thesis presents a technique for co-channel interference detection regarding systems in the 2.4 GHz ISM band used in industry, based on higher-order statistics. Particularly a normalized fourth order cumulant called the Kurtosis will be used to characterize the strength of interference in different interference scenarios. The physical layers of each of 802.11.b, 802.15.4, and 802.15.1 have been implemented in MATLAB to simulate mutual interference. The design of the full detection system is then presented. Simulation results have shown promising interference detection rates for several scenarios.
