Training and education for design for environment
Abstract
With the implementation of the "End of Life Vehicles" (ELV) and the "Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment" (WEEE) directives into national law the automotive as well as the electro and electronic equipment engineers will be soon directly responsible for fulfilling the recycling targets and for the substitution of the forbidden hazardous materials. The Fraunhofer IPA has developed an interactive learning concept special tailored to the needs of the automotive and electronic engineers. Its focus is Design for Environment and provides significant knowledge about the influence of the product structure, different connection techniques and material selection on the recyclability. It includes also necessary information about existing solutins for the substitutes of lead, cadmium, mercury and hexavalent chromium.
