Titel
Enhanced SIP security for air interface (Gm) between IMS core and client
Abstract
The Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is chosen as the standard by Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) [1] for IP Multimedia System (IMS) [2] as the signalling protocol for managing multimedia sessions between Client and IMS Core. In GSM networks the SIP message at air interface are only integrity protected but not confidentially protected. For IMS network, 3GPP recommended to protect air interface by integrity and confidentiality. In this paper we will focus to protect the SIP signalling on this interface and concentrate to provide SIP Integrity protection to mitigate the replay and reflection attacks, and SIP Confidentiality protection against identity theft and man-in-the-middle attacks etc. by applying advance encryption algorithms and mechanisms. This work is part of Secure Service Provisioning (SSP) Framework [3] for IMS at IMS Playground [4] within 3Gb Testbed at Fraunhofer Fokus [5] and is conducted as joint research cooperation between Fraunhofer Fokus Institute for Open Communication Standard, Germany and Pretoria University, South Africa along with many other running joint education and research projects in Information Technology.
