Abstract
Nowadays Total Quality Management (TQM) as an integrated Management philosophy must face new challenges for globally oriented enterprises. The complexity growth has its impact not only on products and processes, but also on the integration of other cultures. The objective of a global TQM system is to create and establish global standards and values. So far, enterprises focused on local process optimization, which led to growth of the organizational complexity and, unfortunately, loss of the complete overview. Due to an integrated process orientation across sites and different borders a first important step can be done to define and implement global standards. Next to the implementation of consistent high quality standards, such a management system enables an efficient integration and certi fication of purchased companies and new sites. A significant challenge in the heterogeneity of the value chain is the definition of an appropriate level of Detail where global standards are mandatory and at which level local adaptions can be realized to assure local flexibility and improvement. For this purpose a model is developed in close cooperation with an industrial partner.
