Exact box-car lifetime measurement of dye fluorescence
Abstract
The box-car or pulse-lifetime method is widely used for fluorescence lifetime measurement. The experimentally determined dye molecule fluorescence lifetime is demonstrated to be affected by bleaching effects. A modified experimental scheme is introduced to enable for the separation of excitation-induced bleaching and effects of the undisturbed dye molecules. A theoretical description of this measurement scheme is applied to experimental fluorescence time traces of rhodamine 6 G-doped PMMA layers to determine lifetime independently of the integration time with an accuracy of 1%.
